The Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) at American International University–Bangladesh (AIUB) successfully hosted a day-long Case Writing Workshop on Thursday, 22 May 2025, in Room 2202. The event aimed to strengthen faculty capabilities in developing practical, decision-oriented teaching cases to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

The workshop began with opening remarks by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Faridul Alam, Director of Graduate Programs, FBA, who emphasized the growing importance of case-based learning in business education and the need to prepare students for real-world decision-making.

The interactive session was conducted by Prof. Dr. Anwar Hossain, Advisor and Dean-in-Charge of FBA, who delivered a detailed presentation covering:

  • Definition & Purpose: Management cases are realistic scenarios designed to develop strategic thinking, judgment, and analytical skills.
  • Types of Cases: Including decision-making, descriptive/analytical, and best practice cases.
  • Steps in Case Development: From identifying real-life issues to data collection, narrative building, crafting discussion questions, and preparing teaching notes.
  • Pedagogical Value: Case studies promote critical thinking, teamwork, and meta-skills such as bias recognition and confidence.
  • Research Application: Case studies as a qualitative research tool for exploring context-rich managerial challenges.

Faculty members were then divided into groups to draft original case studies based on real or simulated business scenarios in areas such as marketing, HR, operations, finance, and strategy. These cases were refined in a collaborative second session using a structured template. The completed submissions will be peer-reviewed and published in a special issue of the AJBE (AIUB Journal of Business and Economics).

The day concluded with remarks by Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, who praised the initiative for fostering academic innovation and urged faculty to integrate contextually relevant cases into their teaching practice.

The workshop was fully conceptualized and supported by Prof. Dr. Anwar Hossain, and was organized by Dr. Rezbin Nahar, Director of Graduate Programs, FBA, who also prepared the materials and facilitated the sessions.

This initiative reinforces AIUB’s commitment to academic excellence, practical pedagogy, and continuous faculty development.
