AIUB SDG Activity Report 2022 | SDG 13: Climate Action

American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) actively addresses the urgent global challenge of climate change by aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 13: Climate Action. Through a combination of university activities and faculty research, AIUB contributes significantly to the global call for climate resilience and sustainability.

The university demonstrates its commitment through activities like the "Webinar on Solar PV Energy Towards Carbon Neutrality By 2050," serving as a knowledge hub that fosters discussions and awareness about the pivotal role of solar energy in achieving carbon neutrality. AIUB engages students and stakeholders in conversations about sustainable energy solutions, laying the foundation for a future powered by renewable resources. AIUB's dedication to environmental causes is evident in the celebration of "World Environment Day 2022," showcasing a holistic approach to climate action. Emphasizing collective responsibility and awareness, the event inspires the AIUB community to actively participate in initiatives contributing to a healthier planet.

In Faculty Research and Publications, AIUB advances climate science with projects like "Microbial Abundance of Waste-Derived Biochar Incubated Acid Soils in Bangladesh" and "Spatial Distribution and Ecological Risk Assessment of Potentially Toxic Metals in the Sundarban Mangrove Soils of Bangladesh." These delve into critical environmental issues, providing valuable insights for sustainable solutions.

Cutting-edge research, such as "Highly Sensitive and Fast Responsive Humidity Sensor based on 2D PtSe2 with Gamma Radiation Tolerance," showcases AIUB's commitment to innovative technologies for climate monitoring and mitigation. Research on "Modeling and Analysis of Cost-Effective Energy Management for Integrated Microgrids" and "Optimized Performance and Economic Assessment for Hybrid Island Microgrid System Considering Uncertainties" reflects the institution's focus on sustainable energy solutions, paving the way for practical and scalable contributions to the fight against climate change.

AIUB's Commitment to Race to Zero: A Step Towards Environmental Sustainability

American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) has taken a significant stride towards combating climate change by committing to the Race to Zero commitment. This initiative showcases AIUB's dedication to environmental sustainability and its proactive approach in addressing global challenges.

Race to Zero Commitment

https://www.educationracetozero.org/current-signatories

Race to Zero is a global campaign rallying non-state actors – including companies, cities, regions, financial, educational, and healthcare institutions – to take rigorous and immediate action to halve global emissions by 2030 and deliver a healthier, fairer, net zero world. Since June 2020, over 13,000 members have joined the campaign and are committed to the same overarching goal: reducing emissions across all scopes swiftly and fairly in line with the Paris Agreement, with transparent action plans and robust near-term targets. Members of Race to Zero automatically join countries in the Climate Ambition Alliance, and their participation is registered on the Global Climate Action portal.

AIUB's initiative to commit to the Race to Zero underscores its commitment to environmental stewardship. The university recognizes its role in mitigating climate change and acknowledges the importance of taking decisive action to reduce carbon emissions. By making this pledge, AIUB demonstrates its leadership in promoting sustainability within the academic community and beyond.
