ORIENTATION ON THE HIGHER EDUCATION QUALITY ENHANCEMENT PROJECT (HEQEP)

The Office of the Vice Chancellor through the Dean of the Faculty of Business and ACRE, Dr. Charles C. Villanueva conducted a half-day orientation on the HEQEP held in the conference room of campus 7 last Thursday, 10 December 2009. The Honorable Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr. Anwar Hossain delivered a brief welcome message to the participants in place of Mr. Ruknud-Deen Ahmed, the Project Director of the UGC HEQEP who had an urgent appointment with the World Bank. The orientation was conducted as an echo of the previous orientation organized by UGC to the key officials of the public and private universities. HEQEP is a novel project designed to improve the quality of higher education including the university education in the country. To carry out this laudable undertaking, the government has embarked 681 crore Taka loan with the World Bank. The important component of this project is the Academic Innovative Fund(AIF) which is made available to both public and private universities on a competitive basis to overhaul the quality and relevance of teaching-learning and research.
This project is considered a breakthrough because the government for the first time is going to provide funds to the private universities in its pursuit for enhancing the quality of its academic programs and services. The participants to the orientation is comprised of the Deans/Directors/Heads of the Faculties/Departments/Offices who will constitute the University Proposal Screening Committee (UPSC) and the academic Innovation Fund Management Unit(AIFMU)as prescribed by the UGC guidelines, as follows:
