In honor of its visionary Founder Chairman, who catalyzed change in the educational sector of the country, the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) organizes the Dr. Anwarul Abedin Lecture Series as one of the many efforts to continue his legacy. And as a part of that very initiative, an insightful online session was held on the 22nd of November 2020, themed on ‘Learning how to Learn and Need for Skill-based Education’.

Mr. Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury, M.P., the Honorable Deputy Minister, Ministry of Education, Govt. of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was the esteemed guest speaker for the occasion. He shared his knowledge and experience on the life-long learning, the cultural aspects of education in line with career goals, and the skills needed to survive and succeed in the world, today and tomorrow. He emphasized on the need for equipping students with skills beyond the traditional curriculum-based learning to increase their potential of becoming global citizens and entrepreneurs. Mr. Mohibul also highlighted the diversification of employability based on student’s analytical ability, areas of specialization, language and numeracy skills. During the question answer session, Mr. Mohibul addressed numerous queries from the audience, elaborating on his valuable ideas.

Mrs. Nadia Anwar, Founder Member, AIUB Board of Trustees, provided the welcome address to the distinguished guest, along with the participating students, faculties, and officials of AIUB. She highlighted the significant importance of continuous learning and skills development for the youth of our nation, inviting the Deputy Education Minister to enlighten and enrich the minds of the leaders of tomorrow. After the session, Dr. Carmen Z Lamagna, the Vice Chancellor of AIUB concluded the event by expressing her gratitude towards the speaker and the audience for their valuable time and support. She also cited her own example of how the diversified knowledge empowered her in her career. Her concluding remarks were “by learning you will teach, and by teaching you will learn. And those who dare to teach must never cease to learn”.

With almost 400 participants on the Zoom platform, and over 6000 live viewers on AIUB’s official Facebook page, the webinar was indeed a success. The saying holds true, even more in this digitally transforming era, “Progress lies, not just in enhancing what is, but in advancing towards what will be.”
