International collaboration is the key to unlocking the potential of science and technology to solve global challenges. By working together, we can share knowledge, resources, and expertise to address issues and make a real difference in the world. Competition may make us faster, but collaboration makes us better, through which we can bring about an unwavering positive change. Since renewing the partnership agreement earlier this year, the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on the 15th of November 2023, at the AIT campus in Pathumthani, Thailand. In a landmark move to strengthen their long-standing partnership, the MoA, signed by Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto, the President of AIT, and Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, the Vice Chancellor-in-Charge and Member, Board of Trustees, at AIUB, marks a significant step forward in their collaborative efforts to foster excellence in doctoral education and capacity building.
The MoA outlines a comprehensive framework for collaboration between the two institutions, encompassing key objectives of promoting faculty and staff development, supporting student doctoral studies, and enhancing institutional capacity building. The agreement facilitates the participation of AIUB faculty and staff in doctoral degree programs at AIT, providing them with the opportunity to enhance their academic qualifications and research expertise. This exchange of knowledge and expertise will undoubtedly contribute to the advancement of AIUB's academic programs and research endeavors. It also underscores the commitment of both AIUB and AIT to supporting the pursuit of doctoral studies by AIUB students. This includes facilitating their admission to relevant doctoral programs at AIT, providing financial assistance, and offering guidance and mentorship throughout their doctoral journey. The MoA aligns with AIUB's capacity-building plan as well, providing a platform for collaboration in areas such as curriculum development, faculty development, and research infrastructure enhancement. This synergistic partnership will undoubtedly strengthen AIUB's institutional capabilities and contribute to its overall growth and development.
Both institutions have been proactive in actualizing constructive collaborations as partners in enhancing global higher education that creates an impact not just in the world but throughout the lives of its stakeholders, from the students to the staff, and the community as a whole. In a world facing increasingly complex challenges, international collaboration is not a choice but an imperative. Through partnerships like the one between AIUB and AIT, we can harness the collective knowledge and expertise of diverse institutions to address global issues and create a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
