The Department of Media and Mass Communication (MMC) at the American International University–Bangladesh (AIUB) marked the Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2025 with an engaging talk titled “Understanding Media Literacy in a Disrupted World.” The event took place on Monday, October 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the AIUB Media Studio.

The session featured Mr. Ramon Guillermo R. Tuazon, from Manila, Philippines, and the Secretary-General of the Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC), as the distinguished speaker. Tuazon, who also served as the keynote speaker at AIUB’s 10th CJEN Conference, shared valuable insights into the role of media in strengthening democracy and maintaining public trust in institutions.

In his address, Mr. Tuazon emphasized that media plays a critical role in shaping democratic societies, and that media literacy is essential for the younger generation to navigate today’s information-saturated environment. He underscored the importance of developing the ability to discern harmful content, hate speech, misinformation, disinformation and verified facts, describing media literacy as a key skill for responsible citizenship in the digital age.

The event was graced by Dr. Tazul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and Dr. A.J.M. Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan, Adviser, MMC Department, along with faculty members and students from various disciplines who actively participated in the discussion.

Through this initiative, the MMC Department reaffirmed its commitment to promoting critical thinking, ethical media practices, and informed media consumption among students, aligning with UNESCO’s mission of advancing Media and Information Literacy (MIL) globally.
