On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the Department of Economics at American International University–Bangladesh (AIUB) organized an informative lecture titled “E-Filing Simplified: A Guide to Tax Returns”, aimed at enhancing students’ basic understanding of income tax filing and digital tax procedures in Bangladesh. The session was held as part of course-based learning to connect academic knowledge with practical applications.
The lecture was conducted by Mr. Abu Taher, District Legal Aid Officer and Senior Assistant Judge, Tangail, who served as the resource person. Drawing on his extensive experience in the legal and public sectors, Mr. Taher provided a clear and practical overview of the e-filing process, highlighting its importance in ensuring transparency, efficiency, and ease in the country’s tax system.
During the session, students were introduced to the fundamentals of income tax, the steps involved in filing tax returns electronically, key documentation requirements, and the benefits of adopting digital systems for tax compliance. The lecture also emphasized the role of taxation in national development and the responsibilities of citizens in contributing to public finance.
This activity was designed to complement theoretical coursework by exposing students to real-world administrative practices and legal frameworks. It also aimed to build awareness and encourage responsible financial behavior among future professionals.
The session concluded with an engaging Q&A segment, allowing students to interact directly with the expert and clarify their queries. Faculty members appreciated the initiative, noting that such practical learning experiences are crucial in preparing students for life beyond the classroom.
The Department of Economics at AIUB continues to emphasize experiential learning, fostering academic excellence alongside practical awareness and civic responsibility.
