Founding of Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University:
APU serves as a truly unique example in international higher education. Founded in April 2000 through the collaboration of three parties: Oita Prefecture, Beppu City and the Ritsumeikan Trust (one of Japan’s oldest and most distinguished private non-profit educational institutions), APU has been managed in a financially independent manner from Ritsumeikan University. Its founding spirit is the creation of a vision of freedom, peace and humanity and the enhancement of international mutual understanding in the Asia Pacific region. While APU is still in its ninth year of existence, it has already established a high reputation as one of the leading universities in Japan with a strong international orientation.

Unique Education System and Outstanding Employment Record:

Our campus is currently populated by 5,963 students, of which roughly 50% are international students who come from 97 different countries of various regions of the world (as of October, 2010). APU currently hosts the largest number of international students among various universities in Japan. APU seeks to play an important role in the intellectual society of the Asia Pacific region. In its short history, APU has already welcomed a number of distinguished members of academic circles of the world to our campus, including Nobel Laureates Prof. Amartya Sen and Prof. Lee Yuan Tseh. APU has also hosted major conference and academic events in collaboration with the United Nations, the ASEAN Secretariat, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Asia Pacific Water Forum. APU’s innovative approach to education has been repeatedly recognized under the Japanese Government’s APU has had opportunities of having heads of leading multinational corporations visiting our campus to speak and interact with students. Scholarships:
APU offers its own scholarship program whose extent of benefits ranges from 30% to 100% tuition fee reduction to outstanding graduate applicants. All applicants are automatically considered for these scholarships.

APPLICATION DEADLINE
The application deadline for overseas applicants enrolling in April 2011 is November 1, 2010.
