In the special and glorious month of victory of Bangladesh, the department of physics of American International University – Bangladesh has inaugurated “Physics Quiz Contest” for the students of AIUB. Eight contestants, selected from the 1st phase of the contest based on the scores, have participated in the final phase which was staged on 13th December 2017. Sayom Nazmus Shakib (student, CSE department) conquered the first position (winner). There was a tie for the 1st runner up position between Rodrigues Pritom Mitchell (student, CSE department) and A S M Mehedi Hasan Sad (student, EEE department). Sarker Soumik Sharma (student, EEE department) became 2nd runner up.
With the inspirational welcome speech, Dr. Tafazzal Hossain, Vice President Academic and the Dean of Faculty of Science and Information Technology has inaugurated the program. He encouraged the students for taking part in a contest like this and advised to continue the journey of nurturing the extraordinary brilliance and wisdom of the students.
Among the distinguished audience, Professor, Department of Physics, University of Dhaka and General Secretary of Bangladesh Physical Society, Dr. Ishtiaque M. Syed and Emergency In-Charge, Apollo Hospitals, Dhaka, and Director of Café 5 Elephant (Sponsor of the Program), Dr. A Z M Ahsan Ullah were present as the special guests. In their valuable speeches they expressed their impressions and special feelings about the necessity of quiz contests to explore the knowledge of the students. According to the speakers such an initiative by Department of Physics is very much encouraging for the development of the students and their interest in science. Café 5 Elephant has sponsored the T-shirts and the books for the winner, 1st and 2nd runner up positions along with 500-taka gift Boucher for each of the eight contestants of the final phase. Moreover, Dr. A Z M Ahsan Ullah has declared 20% discount for the students and the AIUB members in Café 5 Elephant.
Dr. A B M Siddique Hossain, Professor and Dean, Faculty of Engineering, and Professor M A Quaiyum, Faculty of Engineering were also present in the program.
Before starting the quiz contest there was a small cultural program to celebrate the month of victory of Bangladesh and to show gratitude and honor to the patriotic sacrifices of our great heroes who sacrificed their lives to present the independence of Bangladesh. The cultural program was conducted by Professor Dr. Afroza Shelley, Head, Department of Physics, with the recitation of a poem. Saif Al Imam Shota, son of Dr. Afroza Shelley presented two patriotic songs.
The Quiz contest was anchored by Dr. Humayra Ferdous, Assistant Professor and Ms. Israt Kabir, Lecturer, was in the slide operation. Judges panel was embellished by the honorable faculty members of Department of Physics Dr. Rezaul K. Siddique, Professor, Dr. Habib Ullah, Associate Professor, Ms. Salma Begom, Senior Assistant Professor, and Ms. Humaira Haroon, lecturer.
Dr. Farzana Sabeth, Associate Professor, coordinated the program along with the distinguished faculty members Ms. Nusrat Jahan, Assistant Professor, Ms Rutaba Jania, Assistant Professor, Dr. Nurul Kabir Bhuiyan, Senior Assistant Professor and Dr. Azizul Haque, Assistant Professor.
