The Department of Architecture, AIUB organized a webinar titled ‘Bengal Partition in 1905 & it’s impact on shaping up the Bengali Identity” on 29th July 2020, Wednesday at 7 pm for the students and faculty members of the department. The resource person was Ar. Taufique Rahman Khan.
Taufique Rahman Khan takes keen interest in history and philosophy and currently working as an independent researcher to study the partition of India, 1947 and its impact on this region, especially Bengal. His interest also spreads to various form of art and culture of Bangladesh and South Asia. Khan is also serving the 23rd Executive Committee of Institute of Architects Bangladesh, IAB as the Secretary for Seminar & Convention.
As students of architecture, regional history is greatly emphasized in the curriculum. The department of architecture at AIUB, emphasizes the importance of context in every direction of its teaching. This webinar helped the students to rethink, have newer perspectives on great partition of Bengal and how the Bengali identity has persisted throughout the catastrophe, and is still evolving.
It was a very intellectually engaging and interactive webinar; the faculty engagement was praiseworthy. The webinar was streamed live on social media, which had more than 3000 views, reached over 9,000 people and was shared widely among the architecture community. The participants and viewers developed a good knowledge and it ended well with suggestions of books on the partition and Bengal.
The webinar was moderated by the Head of Architecture Department, M. Arefeen Ibrahim. The question-answer session which followed the presentation became very lively with participation of the audience from home and abroad. The department is thankful to Ar. Taufique Rahman Khan for the thought-provoking, engaging presentation and the audience too for showing their keen interest.
