Students of Architecture Department, AIUB have recently participated in “ArchJam 2016: Architects and Architecture Students Jamboree” from 16-19 March, 2016 at the National Scout Training Centre, Mouchak, Gazipur, Bangladesh. 486 participants from different universities from all over the country participated in this program among which AIUB students had the maximum participation with a number of 128. It was a four day long agenda which included basic training of scouting with the association to architecture among architects and architecture students.
The program was inaugurated by Mohammad Habibul Alam, Bir Pratik, Vice- President, Bangladesh Scouts on 16 March, 2016. The day started with the sub- camp allotment, tent pitching of individual groups, learning about knots- lashing, first aid and ended with solidarity and a campfire. AIUB students successfully participated in all programs.
The next day included a flag parade, hiking-survey, extempore composition with obstacle course, forum and campfire where the students participated with lots of interest, enthusiasm and creativity. One of the most exciting tasks was given on 18 March, 2016, building a tree house which was followed by a morning flag parade. The mentors then proceeded to the marketplace for presentation task. The day ended with a Grand Campfire where Dr. Mozammel Haque Khan, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs and Chief National Comissioner, Bangladesh Scouts was the chief guest with the presence of delegates of the Architects Regional Council of Asia (ARCASIA) and South Asian Association for Regional cooperation of Architects (SAARCH). The Arch Jam 2016 came to an end on 19 March with an evaluation and thanksgiving session.
Faculties from Department of Architecture also had an active participation in the program. SyedaTuhin Ara Karim was the member of organizing committee; Sumaya Islam, Md. Rashed Hasan and Nandita Barai participated as the mentors of different groups of students from AIUB Architecture Department.
Students of AIUB made a lot of achievements in each and every competition throughout the whole program. They attained the first and second position in extempore composition. Three AIUB groups were awarded in a cultural competition among 57 groups from different universities. AIUB also got the third and honorable mention in hiking-survey sketch and tree house building. Moreover AIUB students were awarded for maximum participation. The four day long program was a unique opportunity for the Architecture students to learn different skills, to collaborate and interact with a large community.
