AIUB Hosts Digital Security Training of Trainers

The Department of Media and Mass Communication (MMC) at the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) successfully organized a Training of Trainers (session on Digital Security on Friday, 14 November 2025 at its Kuril campus in Dhaka.

The session was conducted by Sanjay Gathia, Programme Manager at the Asia Centre, who provided an extensive overview of urgent digital security challenges in today’s media environment. The initiative is part of the CJEN Bangladesh and Asia Centre – a civil society research institute in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Counsil of the United Nations (UN ECOSOC).

The Digital Security Training (DST) programme, launched by the Asia Centre with the support of Google, aimed at mitigating the negative impact of misinformation, digital threats, and cybersecurity risks across the Asia-Pacific region. Journalism and Mass Communication faculty members from multiple universities, along with students, attended the session and actively engaged throughout the program.

In his opening remarks, Dr. AJM Shafilul Alam Bhuiyan, Adviser to the department of MMC underscored the growing importance of digital security in the modern era, emphasizing its critical relevance for media practitioners who increasingly rely on digital platforms for information gathering, communication, and content dissemination.

Throughout the training, Mr. Gathia discussed a wide range of emerging issues, including different types of online fraud, scams, and platform-based threats. He also addressed vulnerabilities associated with the Internet of Things (IoT), the rise of artificial intelligence and AI-driven cyber risks, and the mechanisms individuals and institutions can adopt to strengthen digital safety and resilience.

The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment, allowing participants to seek clarification and deepen their understanding of effective digital protection strategies. The program was hosted by the head of the department of MMC, Rani Ellen V. Ramos, who ensured smooth coordination and an engaging experience for all attendees.
