AIUB DRAMA CLUB [ADC] PRESENTS SEMESTER PLAY: “KURSI”

Political satires have gained popularity in the world of entertainment today, whether it be movies, music, or any other art form. It provides a platform to not only bring forth significant political debacles, but highlighting the ‘moral of the story’ with a sarcastic sense of humor. The AIUB Drama Club (ADC) has always made it a point to present plays that hold meaning to the audience so they can relate to it, and their performance of “Kursi” does just that. Written by Sahriar Hannan and directed by Ripon Talukdar, ADC staged the play on the 17th of April 2016 in the AIUB Auditorium. The script takes the audience into the everyday politics of a president and his group of cronies, who abuse their power as parliament members. The corrupt politicians stoop lower and lower, lying and cheating their way to save their ‘kursi’ but in the end are caught up in their own spun web of deceit, punished for their committed sins.

The story reflected the situation of our own country’s political dilemma for which it was well received by those in the audience who felt like they were a part of the story themselves, victimized by the system as the ‘common man’. The show came to an end with the members of ADC expressing their gratitude to the audience as well as the Office of Student Affairs [OSA] and the administrative management, along with the members from other fellow clubs who came to attend the program, for their support towards the club and its activities to uphold the dying art form of theatre. Everyone applauded their efforts and seemed to look forward to their next play.
