workshops on Academic Writing

The Department of English, American International University Bangladesh organized workshops on Academic Writing on 25th February 2016 at Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Building. The Workshops were conducted by Professor Tahmina Ahmed, Ms. Zerin Alam, Associate Professor and Ms. Nehrir Khan, Assistant Professor from the Department of English, University of Dhaka. The workshops began with a brief introduction of the facilitators and a welcome speech by Mr. M Hamidul Haque, Head, Department of English. The workshops were conducted in two parallel sessions for two different groups of participants between 11a.m. to 2 p.m.; one group comprised of the faculty members of the Department of English, AIUB and another group comprised of the faculty members of Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Economics and MMC departments of AIUB. While the faculty members of the Department of English participated in a workshop on “Teaching Writing”, the faculty members of other Departments participated in a workshop on “Academic Writing”. The sessions included interactive discussion with a brief question-answer round.

The workshops were conducted as part of the Department of English Writing Service (DEWS) project, University of Dhaka under the International Strategic Partnerships in Research and Education (INSPIRE) project funded by the British Council Bangladesh. The project revised the writing curriculum based on needs analysis. The project team has now been disseminating their ideas to different tertiary level teachers of English writing.

The workshops were concluded with vote of thanks and offering gifts by Professor Dr. Tazul Islam, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
