Workshop on Microcontroller & Basics of Robotics Presented by IEEE AIUB Student Branch

IEEE AIUB Student Branch organized a 4 day long workshop on “Microcontroller & Basics of Robotics” on 5th June, 8th June, 12th June and 3rd July 2014 in Room 266. The detailed event covered both the basic and advance level of topics in order to facilitate the creativity of participants, especially 3rd and final year students in building enriched projects.
The much awaited workshop was conducted by MD. Mahmud Yusuf, EMBEDDED SYSTEM ENGINEER (R&D), SinePulse GmbH and Kazi Muhammad Jameel, Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB. The instructors followed a step by step process of first introducing microcontroller and its various applications such as basic input output operations, analog to digital converters (ADC) and interruption. Subsequently concepts such as Timer & Counter, Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) and its operations, UART, SPI and 12C were discussed. Finally on the last day of the event, different types of motor controllers such as DC, stepper and servomotor were discussed and an introduction to robotics and the use of sensors in robotics was presented. In addition, simple microcontroller based circuits were demonstrated for the participants to examine and learn practically. Students were also encouraged and inspired to learn about ongoing as well as prospective projects.
To conclude the 4 daylong event, Dr. A.B.M Siddique Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Engineering shared a short speech on the benefits of such workshops and thanked the instructors for their participation. Dr. M A Mannan, Head, Undergraduate Program, Faculty of Engineering; Mr. Farhadur Arifin, Counselor of IEEE AIUB Student Branch and Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering; Dr. Tanmoy Debnath, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering also graced the event with their presence. Certificate and crests were presented to the instructors as a token of appreciation for their contribution and effort. Lastly, certificates were distributed among all participants by the instructors.
