Workshop on Creative Writing

Workshop on Creative Writing

The English Writing Club (EWC) of the Department of English, AIUB, organized a workshop on creative writing on July 30, 2009. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Patrick Dougherty, a teacher, trainer, writer and a poet who teaches in Dubai. Dr. Dougherty is the coordinator of Teachers Helping Teachers, a Japan based teachers’ forum and a Special Interest Group of Japan Association of Language Teachers (JALT). A total of 30 promising student-writers from various departments participated in the workshop actively and enthusiastically. Dr. Faheem Hasan Shahed (Head of the English Department), Syeda Farzana Sultana and Qumrul Hasan Chowdhury (moderators of EWC), and several faculty members of English were present in the workshop. The session was highly interactive and very interesting. It seemed that the students were enlightened and inspired to be creative writers. Through his activities, which the students enjoyed a lot, Dr. Dougherty inspired the students to see beyond the surface of things, to use the most powerful faculty of imagination. The honorable Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Dr. Charles C Villanueva, who ardently participated in the entire proceedings, presented a letter of appreciated to Dr. Dougherty for his wonderful contribution.
