Visit of Shiddhirganj power plant

Students of “Power Stations” went to a study tour to the Shiddhirganj Power plant on 15th October 2011 as a part of our course, under the supervision of our course teacher Ms. Gouri Rani Barai. The  plant is located on the bank of Shitalakkah river. It is a 210 MW generating unit. The group of students started from campus 2 at around 7:45 a.m. and reached the power station around 9:30 a.m. On reaching the students were warmly welcomed by the substation Engineer of that Power plant Mr. Shirajul Islam. He briefed about the operational process of the power plant and provided with a copy of the flow diagram. He introduced to Mr. Shawpon Kumar Shaha, Chief Engineer. Students were made into groups and each group were given a guided tour by the substation engineer. They explained the maintenance loss which was 6% of the generated power. At present, due to some constructional problem, none of the units of the power station were in operation. Finally, the study tour ended and the students arrived safely at AIUB campus around 3:45 pm Special thanks to Mrs. Meghla Clara Costa, Mr. Shemandu Roy Rohit, Ms. Tasneem Chowdhury and Mr. Nahina Al Subri for accompanying us all the way.
