To encourage and persuade the young students about the Right to Information (RTI) and Information Commission, Department of Media and Communication of American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) organized a discussion on “Right to Information, Good Governance and Accountability” on Monday, 9th July 2012. Muhammad Zamir, the ambassador (Rtd.) and the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC), Information Commission, Bangladesh, was the key-note speaker. The CIC asked everyone to use effectively the Right to Information (RTI) Act to establish transparency and intelligibility to eradicate corruption from the society. On the other hand Muhammad Zamir said that they have prepared a by-law specifying procedure of keeping records and applying information and the charge for getting information as well. He also talked about Information Commission and cited a number of instances to depict the role of the commission. He also informed the audience comprising of students, and teachers that the Information Commission achieved significant success and he invited all to come and get services from the commission. Finally the Chief Information Commissioner came upon a few questions from the audiences after delivering his speech.
Professor Dr. Charles Villanueva, Dean, Faculty of Business Administration delivered the Welcome Address while Professor Tazul Islam, Dean Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), bestowed the Vote of Thanks.
Professor Dr. Matiur Rahman, Associate Dean, FASS, Dr. A B M Rahmatullah, Head, Department of Econimics, Dr Faheem H. Shahed, Head, Department of English, Dr Buddha Dev Biswas and Mr Zahidul Islam also were present in this program. The program was coordinated by Ms Farhana Afroz and Mr Tanvir Chowdhury.
