TRIBUTE TO OUR MOTHER LANGUAGE - BANGLA

The month of February always seems to reverberate in black and white, with only red and green bleeding bright. For this was the month where lives were lost to gain the right to our mother tongue. And every year, AIUB pays their respect to the sacrifice made by so many to honor the Bengali language. A long-held tradition, every year on the 21st of February, the Office of Student Affairs [OSA], strides together with the student clubs of AIUB, towards the ‘Shaheed Minar’, to pay their respects to the martyrs of our Language Movement.

This year, honoring the Bengali Language with revering banners and alphabet cut-outs in red, black, and white, they all marched forward to present their wreath of flowers in memory of the day commemorating our victory in reclaiming the Bengali Language along with saluting the sacrifices made by so many in the process. Joined by the Faculty Members and officials from Office of Student Affairs, the student clubs together took great pride in remembering the history and heritage of our homeland, Bangladesh. Today, the 21st of February is not only marked as the ‘Shaheed Dibosh’ for our Bengali Language, but reciprocated worldwide as the International Language Movement Day.
