The Department of Marketing, and Tourism & Hospitality Management (THM), Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) attended the seminar entitled “Environmental Sustainability in Tourism: Role of Police” organized by the Tourist Police, Bangladesh on the occasion of World Tourism Day 2024 on September 26, 2024, at the Rojonigondha Conference Hall, Fareast Tower, 35, Topkhana Road, Purana Paltan, Dhaka.
A keynote paper on “Environmental Sustainability in Tourism: Role of Police” was presented by Prof. Dr. Santus Kumar Deb, of Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management of University of Dhaka. The paper stressed on the prospect of sustainable and responsible Tourism. Dr. Deb also highlighted the growing career opportunities in the tourism sector. Students and faculty members from other reputed universities like University of Dhaka also participated in the seminar. The multi sectoral representatives from Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB), Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC), Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh (TOAB), Association of Travel Agents of Bangladesh (ATAB) and high officials of respective ministries exchanged their views on the global tourism day themed Tourism for Peace. The seminar concluded with exchange of opinions and recommendations from the participating faculty members and other stakeholders from Forestry, Environment and Tourism sectors.
The participation in the event provided valuable insights for students of Tourism and Hospitality Management, aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of "Quality Education." This initiative reflects AIUB's commitment to educational excellence and its dedication to nurturing future professionals in the tourism and hospitality sectors.
The participation of the THM students in the event was accompanied by Mr. Soumendra S. Das, Associate Professor, Department of Marketing, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Partha P. Chowdhury, MCIM, Chartered Marketer (UK) & Head, Department of Marketing, & THM. The Department of Marketing & THM expressed sincere appreciation for all administrative and logistical support received from the Director, BBA Program, and the AIUB Management.
