On Thursday, 22nd May 2025, the students of Tourism and Hospitality Management (THM) of American International University - Bangladesh embarked on an enriching study tour to Baliati Jamidar Bari, a historic and architecturally significant site located in Saturia, Manikganj. Known for its majestic palatial structures and cultural heritage, Baliati Jamidar Bari offered an ideal real-life learning environment for the students. Accompanied by faculty member Mahmudul Hasan, the tour aimed to bridge academic knowledge with practical insights into heritage tourism, site management, and hospitality services in historical locations.
Upon arrival, the students were captivated by the grandeur of the zamindar palace, which consists of several large buildings enclosed by a surrounding moat and boundary walls. They explored the various halls, courtyards, and restored rooms while learning about the lifestyle of the zamindars during the colonial era. The faculty guided interactive sessions on the preservation of heritage sites, challenges of tourism management in rural areas, and the importance of storytelling in heritage interpretation.
The tour provided an excellent opportunity for the students to apply their classroom learning in a real-world context. Engaging directly with a prominent heritage site, they gained valuable experience in evaluating tourism potential, analyzing visitor experience, and understanding the role of local communities in promoting sustainable tourism. The visit to Baliati Jamidar Bari not only deepened their appreciation for Bangladeshi history and architecture but also enhanced their practical knowledge in the fields of tourism planning and hospitality services.
The objective of organizing this study tour was in line with key sustainable goal (SDG) of the United Nations “Quality Education.” The focus of the Department of Tourism and hospitality management on organizing this type of event reflects AIUB's commitment to excellence in education and its dedication to nurturing future professionals in the domain of tourism and hospitality management.
