Education Without Borders World Forum

The Vice Chancellor participated in the Education Without Borders (EWB) world forum held in Dubai, UAE last March 28-30, 2011was organized and funded by the Higher Colleges of Technology and supported by the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research.  It was a grandeur opening ceremony fronting the Burj Khalifa by HE Minister Nahayan Mubarak Al Nahayan and Dr. Tayeb Kamali, President of EWB and Vice Chancellor of Higher Colleges of Technology. The EWB world forum brought together leaders representing educational institutions, governments and a diverse range of local and international industries.  The event also coincides with the students’ forum.  Keynote and panel discussants included President of Kenya, Rt. Hon. Raila Oclinga, Former Prime Minister of UK, Mr. Tony Blair, former President of Sri Lanka, Ms. Chandrika Kamaratunga. The VC was one of the panelists in the session “Regional Challenges” with Presidents of other universities addressing the issue of competitiveness. The deliberations, within the theme of globalization, have offered opportunities for leaders to share ideas and experiences and explore possibilities for the future.  Topics also included access to education and empowerment for all, have drawn on the tremendous depth of experience and success of the panelists, presented ideas and opportunities, harnessed for the benefit of the students.
