The Department of English, American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) hosted a workshop titled “The Art of Crafting Narratives: A Workshop on Understanding and Translating Fiction” on Thursday, August 28, 2025, which was held from 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM at Multipurpose Hall 7. The workshop began with an inspiring speech from Professor Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Pro Vice Chancellor, AIUB, followed by a welcome note from Hamidul Haque, Senior Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of English. The event brought together literature enthusiasts from students and faculty members for a deep dive into the world of storytelling.
Mr. Mojaffor Hossain—renowned author and translator from Bangla Academy was present as the facilitator. With his rich insights and captivating presence, he guided participants through the layered complexities of fiction: its historical evolution, political dimensions, structures and its transformative power to shape human perceptions of viewing life. It also explored a wide spectrum of themes including myths, parables, allegory, the construction and deconstruction of truth, post-truth narratives, allusion, and the art of translation. Discussions also touched on alternative storytelling techniques and the essential components that shape compelling fiction.
The workshop was organized under the supervision of Dipty Rahman, Lecturer, Department of English. The event saw vibrant participation from both students and faculty, creating a dynamic space for literary exchange. It proved especially valuable for those passionate about literature, and for aspiring writers and translators seeking to refine their craft.
