Talk Show on “Investment Management: Present and Beyond”

The Department of Finance, Faculty of Business Administration of American International University – Bangladesh (AIUB) has organized a Talk Show on “Investment Management: Present and Beyond “on 2nd November, 2011 in the AIUB Auditorium.  The program started with the welcome message by the Dean of Faculty of Business Administration, Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva. Dr. Md. Dulal Miah, Assistant Professor and Dead, Department of Finance facilitated the show as moderator. Two prominent speakers, Mr. Abdul Hannan Zoarder, Executive President, Bangladesh Institute of Capital Market and Mr. Shihab Ansari Azhar, Stakeholders Engagement, International Finance Corporations(BIFC) shared their views on various aspects of investment management. Mr. Azhar highlighted the need for investment management for the greater prosperity of the country while pointing out the emerging sectors for future investment. He also emphasized that students should prepare themselves through learning various risk management tools to better manage investment. They can be agent of change in improving the investment climate of the country through educated professional managers of investments. In answering the question “What is the future of financial sector investment in Bangladesh especially after the recent turmoil in the Stock Market”, Mr. Zoarder stressed out the characteristics and nature of capital market as well as the risk associated with it. He also urged the students to learn various risks involved with the capital market and how students with professional academic degrees with Investment Management as major can help students better manage risks. The demand for this kind of professionals is strong considering the dearth or limited professionals available in the business sector in Bangladesh. The impact of the talk show is manifested by the enthusiasm shown by the students and faculty in raising questions which were ably responded and clarified by the speakers. At the end of the program, Dr. Nisar Ahmed, Director, MBA program, delivered the vote of thanks to the resource speakers for presenting to the students with an intellectual and futuristic oriented session.  As a sign of gratitude, the university through the honorable Dean and Director presented a Certificate of Appreciation to each of the discussants.
