To get a first hand information about the actual process of footwear making as part of the Operation Management course of the Faculty of Business Administration, a number of faculty and 2 foreign exchange students went to visit Bay Footwear Limited located in Mouchak, Gazipur, Bangladesh . The said visit was organized by Mr. Asif Parvez, Deputy Registrar  on Thursday, 12 April 2012.  With him in the visit are the Dean, Faculty of Business Administration, Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, Mr. Zobair Shibli, Head, Department of Operations Management and Marketing, Mr. Farooque Hossain , Asst. Professor, Department of Finance, and Mr. Ziarat Hossain Khan, Deputy Director, Office of Students Affairs. The foreign exchange students from University of Gavle, Sweden, namely: Mr. Albin Erikson and Rasmus Gustafsson who expressed satisfaction on what they have observed how a footwear is produced passing  through  the chronological and meticulous stages of production . They were also happy to have seen the countryside of Dhaka especially the numerous garments and bricks factories. On hand to receive the AIUB group were Mr. Ziaur Rahman, Managing Director of Bay Footwear Ltd. and Mr. Mainur Rahman, Director of Bay Footwear Ltd., who was kind enough to guide us to the different facilities of the company. The company caters both to the local and foreign demands. Apparently, there are huge  number of orders from various countries like Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Japan, China and others. The have also outlets in Banani and Gulshan areas carrying the name of Bay Emporium. Interestingly, most of the raw materials are processed by the company through their own tannery and processing plants.  Providing technical support to the operations are Chinese citizens from Taiwan. At the end of the visit, AIUB through the Dean presented some tokens from the university to the hosts as gesture of thanks for the opportunity the company provided to the AIUB group of visitors.
