Study Tour for the Course of Rural Marketing

On 12th of April 2012, Thursday, Department of Marketing, arranged a study tour for the course of “Rural Marketing” to observe the Micro-Credit activities initiated by Nobel Peace Prize Winner Organization - Grameen Bank in a village in Manikgonj district - “Khangsha” – located in Shingare Upzila. The objective of organizing the tour was to learn about micro-credit operations and observe how these credit schemes are contributing in rural development. The tour was organized & coordinated by Ms. Tahsina Khan, Faculty - Department of Marketing. The Tour started from Campus 1 with students & Course Instructor –Ms. Tahsina Khan along with other faculties - Mr. A. K.M. Kamrul Haque, Ms. Samia Shabnaz, & Ms. Bohi Shajahan. Two Grameen Bank officials Mr. Golam Morshed Mohammed (Senior Principal Officer, International p Department) and Mr. Mofakkhar guided the field trip.
The most informative part was participating in ‘Uthan Boithak’ in Khangsha Village, to gather first-hand experience on branch-meeting, community involvement in utilizing the micro-credits & observing the socio-economic development in rural environment. Students had question-answer session with members (borrowers of the bank) and as well as with Grameen Bank Officials. Later the students & faculties attended a review session in the Grameen Bank - branch office at Kangsha village with the Branch Manager Mr. Shuvash Chandra Sarker. At the end of the review session, the tour participants had their lunch & started for Grameen Bank Head Office in Mirpur-2, Dhaka.
It was really an exciting & memorable experience to visit the Nobel Gallery located in Grameen Bank Head Office, where the prestigious Nobel Award, valuable literature & photographic documents on national & internal achievements were on display. After visiting Nobel Gallery the team went for a discussion session with Ms. Jannat-E-Quanine (General Manager, International Program Department, Grameen Bank). Ms. Jannat welcomed the team and gave a speech on the success story of Grameen Bank. Ms. Jannat met all the queries of students. She inspired the students to do something for the people whose are underprivileged. After the session, Ms. Jannat was presented a Certificate of Appreciation; she thanked the initiative of AIUB to arrange such an educational trip. The Department of Marketing extends its profound thanks to the management of the University for providing full support to make the study tour a memorable event for the participants.
