Beyond exhibiting and networking, members of the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) delegation actively participated in several high-level sessions and masterclasses that addressed emerging issues in higher education, sustainability, internationalization, and institutional impact at the Global Sustainable Development

Congress (GSDC) 2026, organized by Times Higher Education in Jakarta, Indonesia held at the Indonesia convention center, Jakarta from June 22 to June 25, 2026.

Mr. Ishtiaque Abedin, Founder Member, Board of Trustees, AIUB and Ms. Shania Abedin, Member, Board of Trustees, AIUB attended the keynote session, “Universities Beyond 2030: Strengthening Higher Education as a Global Driver of Sustainable Development”, delivered by higher education leader Bayu Arie Fianto on Monday, June 22, 2026. The session explored how universities must evolve beyond their traditional teaching and research functions to become transformative institutions capable of driving social innovation, economic development, and environmental sustainability."

For Mr. Abedin, whose role within the Board of Trustees involves helping shape the strategic direction and future growth of AIUB, the session provided valuable insights into the importance of developing agile institutions that can respond effectively to rapidly changing global realities. Key takeaways included the need for universities to build stronger cross-sector partnerships, integrate sustainability into institutional decision-making, strengthen international collaboration, and prepare graduates with the skills required for an increasingly complex and interconnected world.

Mr. Ishtiaque also attended the panel discussion, "How Are Universities Shaping Sustainable Cities Through Global Collaboration?"

The discussion highlighted successful initiatives where universities have partnered with governments, industries, and local communities to address urban sustainability challenges, climate resilience, smart city development, and social inclusion.

The session reinforced the role of universities as catalysts for sustainable urban development and highlighted opportunities for AIUB to further strengthen its engagement with communities and stakeholders in support of sustainable national development.
