Department of Architecture, AIUB
Venue:
AIUB Campus

The advent of Pohela Boishakh 1433 infused American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) with vibrant color and cultural pride. Led by the Department of Architecture, the celebration became both a tribute to Bengali heritage and a visionary artistic endeavor, transforming the campus into a dynamic space of tradition, collaboration, and festive energy.

82 students from Design Studio I and II played active role at the heart of this transformation by  creating fifty-two intricate placards and five large-scale mascots inspired by Bengali folklore—Elephant, Deer, Owl, Kingfisher, and Peacock. Placed across the campus, these vibrant forms acted as symbolic markers of cultural identity, welcoming the Bangla New Year with striking artistic expression.

This immense effort was guided by the leadership of M. Arefeen Ibrahim, Head of the Department. The students’ creative journey was further enriched by the dedicated mentorship of their studio guides—Tabassum Zarin Tithi, Nazifa Zabeen Siddiqua, Fatema Nur Sumaita, Nushrat-E-Hoque, and Alvi Md. Ragib Nihal Khan—whose guidance transformed the students’ creative energy into a cohesive and compelling visual narrative.

The festivities were carefully structured to highlight the strengths of each studio. Studio I students transformed the linear space in front of Annex 7 into a vibrant festive zone, enlivened with expressive placards. In parallel, Studio II students undertook the striving task of designing and installing large-scale mascots that became the visual focal points of the campus. The spirit of community reached its peak on the eve of the celebration, as current students and alumni came together in a remarkable display of collaboration, creating vivid street Alpona across the Annex 2–3 parking area and turning the pavement into a vibrant canvas of color.

The festivities were officially inaugurated by Ms. Nadia Anwar, Honorable Founder Member and Chairperson of the AIUB Board of Trustees, alongside Professor Dr. Saiful Islam, Vice Chancellor of American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). Special acknowledgment is extended to Ms. Nadia Anwar, whose support and coordination helped make this one of the most vibrant Boishakh Utshab celebrations.

The Department also extends its heartfelt gratitude to the AIUB administration and support staff for their continued cooperation and logistical assistance in making this event a memorable success.
