On February 10th, 2024, AIUB Computer Club organized a workshop titled “Metaverse Spaces: NFT Perspectives and Upcoming Aspects” via the online platform Microsoft Teams. The workshop aimed to shed light on Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) and their role in shaping the metaverse, featuring Md Hasibul Huq, (Former President of AIUB Computer Club and Chief Executive Officer of KT Informatik), as the speaker.

The workshop was initiated with an introduction of the speaker, followed by an exploration of the concept of the metaverse as a parallel world. Attendees were then introduced to the fundamentals of NFTs, including their definition, functionality and their potential to revolutionize experiences within the metaverse.

In between the session Mr. Abhijit Bhowmik (Special Assistant for the Office of Student Affairs and Associate Professor of Computer Science at AIUB) also spoke a few words and shared his thoughts on NFTs urging the participants to gather as much knowledge as possible from the workshop.

In the meantime, the speaker elaborated on the significance of Blockchain Technology. An overview of blockchain technology was provided, emphasizing its role in powering NFTs and facilitating secure transactions. He also went briefly through Investment Strategies related to NFTs, with a focus on encouraging widespread participation in the market. Five characteristics of NFTs were outlined, with two identified as mandatory attributes crucial for understanding their functionality. A step-by-step explanation of how NFTs operate, including their creation, distribution and sale, was presented. Various platforms such as Bitcoin and Ethereum were highlighted as essential components of the NFT ecosystem.

Later on, participants were acquainted with the rules governing the construction of blockchain networks, essential for ensuring the integrity and security of NFT transactions. The selling points along with distinctive features of NFTs were also discussed, underscoring their potential applications across different industries and technologies. Attendees were exposed to examples of NFT projects and the challenges encountered in their implementation, including issues related to marketplaces and the sale of multiple tokens.

The workshop concluded with a Q&A session, allowing participants to clarify doubts and engage in further discussion. In reply of a question, Blockchain records and transaction hashes were highlighted as vital components for maintaining transparent and verifiable NFT transactions. Mr. Alvy Ahmed (Former Vice President) was also present in the workshop. He and the speaker Mr. Hasibul Haq were heavily thanked for their valuable time and effort as they bid farewell to everyone.

Overall, the workshop provided attendees with a comprehensive understanding of NFTs and their significance within the evolving landscape of the metaverse, empowering them to explore new opportunities and ventures in this emerging domain.
