On Sunday, March 8, 2026, the IEEE AIUB Student Branch in collaboration with the IEEE AIUB Student Branch WIE Affinity Group successfully organized a seminar titled “Power, Planning and Progress: Women at the Forefront of Engineering.” The seminar aimed to highlight the contributions and leadership of women in engineering and to inspire the students to thrive for excellence in the engineering field.
The program commenced with the inaugural speech by Dr. Gour Chand Mazumder,
Assistant Professor, FE, AIUB. He thanked the IEEE AIUB Student Branch for organizing the seminar and emphasized the importance of such initiatives. He then invited the distinguished speaker of the session Engr. Tasnuva Binte Anowar, Executive Engineer, Power System and Renewable Integration, Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC) to the stage. She began by introducing herself and sharing her academic background along with her nine year-long professional journeys in the planning and design department of DPDC. During her presentation, she explained the planning structure used for energy distribution across Dhaka and provided valuable insights into the power distribution system. Furthermore, she discussed the use of machine learning in power distribution planning, putting emphasis on the importance of collaboration between EEE and CSE engineers in the evolving energy sector. She also highlighted the low participation of women in the energy and power industry and emphasized that effective planning and development require contributions from both men and women. The lecture concluded with an interactive Q&A session where Engr. Tasnuva addressed various queries from enthusiastic participants, fostering a dynamic exchange of ideas.
Following the Q&A session, Prof. Dr. A.B.M Siddique Hossain, Dean, FE, AIUB delivered the closing remarks by thanking the speaker for his enlightening session as well as the IEEE AIUB Student Branch and IEEE AIUB Student Branch WIE Affinity Group for organizing the seminar. Afterwards, a token of appreciation was presented to the speaker by Prof. Dr. A.B.M Siddique Hossain.
