The Department of Finance at American International University-Bangladesh organized a seminar entitled “Islamic Banking in a new horizon” on 28th September 2011. The target audience was the students of Bank Fund Management, Working Capital Management and Introduction to business. The main purpose of the seminar was to clarify the concept of Islamic Banking and its role in the financial system. The program started with the welcome address of the honorable head of the Department of Finance, Dr. Md. Dulal Miah. The resource person of the seminar was Md. Kabir Hossain, Executive Vice President and Zonal Head (Dhaka North Zone) Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited. Honorable Dean of Faculty of Business Administration, Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, MBA program director, Dr. Nisar Ahmed and many other faculty members were also present at the seminar.
The discussion started by the guest speaker giving an introduction on the evolution of Islamic Banking in Bangladesh and around the globe. In addition, the speaker highlighted the important concepts of Islamic Banking and how they are different from Conventional Banking. The speaker also highlighted the career opportunities for students of business administration in this sector which is expanding rapidly due to increase in the number of Islamic Banks as well as conventional banks’ opening Islamic Banking windows. The lecture ended with a lively question-answer session. Students were very happy to join the seminar and the resource person expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to the Department of Finance for the invitation and hospitality.
At the end of the seminar, the Dean of Faculty of Business Administration delivered the vote of thanks and awarded the certificate of appreciation to the resource person. Dr. Nisar Ahmed, Director, MBA Program presented the souvenir to the resource speaker on behalf of the university. The event was coordinated by Mrs. Bohi Shajahan, a faculty of the Department of Finance.
