SEMINAR ON CRITICAL EVALUATION OF MOST RECENT STATISCAL DATA ON THE STATE OF POVERTY, DEMOGRAPHY AND HEALTH: THEIR IMPACT ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATION IN SOUTH ASIA
For the third time, Dr. Wolfgang Vollman, the former UNESCO Representative to Bangladesh was again featured in the aforesaid seminar. After coming from Nepal, Dr. Vollman came to Bangladesh to fulfill our invitation to deliver a lecture. He has selected this topic in view of the recent statistical data which he compiled and analyzed particularly in the South Asian Region. It was interesting to note of the comparison of the various indicators especially with reference to Bangladesh performance on poverty alleviation, population or demography and health condition of the people. Both the faculty and students raised some questions which are relevant to the topic and resulted to better understanding of the situation obtaining in South Asian region. Mr. Vollman is a familiar figure in the university but the usual courtesy and appreciation for his expertise was properly accorded to him by Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, Dean Faculty of Business Administration and who at the same time a UNESCO Consultant on education. Prof. Dr. Tazul Islam, Dean Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Dr. Ehsanul Huda, Director of the BBA Program, Dr. ABM Ramatullah, Head Department of Economics and Deputy Director of AQAC, and the faculty of FASS and FBA were present during the seminar. His presentation can be uploaded on the web so that the faculty and students can utiize it in their related classroom discussions.
