On Wednesday 21st November 2012, a seminar titled “Integration of Biomedical and Electrical Engineering: Applications and Opportunities” was held in the Dept. Electrical and Electronics Engineering of AIUB. The seminar was organized and conducted by Ms Tonima Ali, lecturer, EEE. The purpose of this seminar was to announce the opening of the lab component of Biomedical Instrumentation, Measurement, and Design in EEE and encourage students to pursue studies in Biomedical Engineering. The keynote speech was delivered by Dr. K Siddique-e Rabbani, Professor and Chairperson, Department of Biomedical Physics & Technology, University of Dhaka.
The event started with an overview of the course Biomedical Instrumentation, Measurement, and Design and the upcoming laboratory experiments and facilities by the course coordinator Ms Tonima Ali. The equipments for this laboratory have been designed by Dr. K. Siddique-e Rabbani and his research group. The inventions and implementations of biomedical instruments by the Dept. Biomedical Physics and Technology of Dhaka University were then discussed by Dr. K. Siddique-e Rabbani. Through an interactive session, he discussed on scopes and obstacles of Biomedical Engineering in Bangladesh; the achievements by his research group; and explained the working principles of ECG and EMG. The faculty members and students of EEE enjoyed a lively discussion and thorough analysis of the technical integration of physics, electronics, and instrumentation in his lecture. A demonstration of ECG was presented by the students of BMID and a demonstration of EMG was presented by the Dhaka University research group. Prof. Dr. ABM Siddique Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Engineering concluded the seminar with closing notes and presented souvenir items to the Dr. K. Siddique-e Rabbani and his research group.
