at Sculpture Park in Gazipur
On December 5, 2009, the students of ARCH 3114: SCULPTURE course from the Department of Architecture, AIUB successfully completed a daylong workshop on Clay Modeling at renowned Sculptor Prof. Hamiduzzaman Khan’s Sculpture Park and Studio at Sardarganj, Gazipur. Prof. Hamiduzzaman, as the course instructor along with Sudipta Barua and some other teachers accompanied the team and supervised the whole day long process.
Sculpture Park and Studio is relatively a new phenomenon in our context. It is a facility that provides living and work space to the emerging and established artists. The trip integrated both site visit and hands on training, the two most important parts of architecture study. The study trip was aimed to develop empathy for SCULPTURE as an important form of Art and offer appreciation for contemporary form of Sculpture and tools used in its making. Each student was assigned with an individual project. They made two clay models each with the help of modeling tools that were provided by the sculpture studio. Students completed the given projects on site with enthusiasm.
With this study trip the students understood the concept of integrating SCULPTURE with ARCHITECTURE and the importance of sculpture in urban landscape.
