Research seminar titled “Postgraduate Studies in Engineering

On Sunday, August 13th, 2023, the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE), Faculty of Engineering, AIUB in collaboration with the IEEE AIUB Student Branch, successfully organized a research seminar titled "Postgraduate Studies in Engineering." The event aimed to cover diverse topics like postgraduate benefits, funding options, research areas, and the impact of advanced education on careers. It also aimed to connect students with seasoned academics for insights into shaping their futures in various fields of engineering. The event was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Abdul Mannan, Associate Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; Advisor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch. He delved into the benefits and significance of postgraduate studies and research, offering advice on initiating the process. After the inauguration, Dr. Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Department Head, Graduate Program, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB shared his insights on the session.

Then Dr. Mohammad Tawhidul Alam, Associate Professor, Department of EEE, AIUB took the stage as the first keynote speaker. His presentation, titled "Simultaneous AC-DC System - A New Approach to Power Transmission," began with a concise overview of the topic before delving into deeper topics such as HVDC systems, monopolar links, and the necessity of power transmission enhancements. Following his session, Dr. Tanbir Ibne Anowar, Associate Professor, Department of EEE, AIUB initiated his session on “Prospects on Wireless Power Transfer and its Recent Trends”. He delved into the potential of wireless power transfer and its contemporary advancements. He elaborated on topics like frequency splitting phenomena, optimal coupling mechanisms, IEEE standards, and safety considerations. Next, Raja Rashidul Hasan, Assistant Professor, Department of EEE, AIUB took the stage for his session titled “Advantage of 2D Materials in Wireless Applications”. He discussed the utilization of antennas in various applications, including capsule endoscopy, integration of antennas in textiles, the role of 2D titanium carbide, and the advantages offered by microstrip patch antennas. The final session, titled “Electrical Impedance Sensing for Chlorophyll-a Estimation using Machine Learning Approaches” was presented by Dr. Rinku Basak, Associate professor, Department of EEE, AIUB. He discussed the development of electrical impedance spectroscopy, utilization of MATLAB, and the estimation of Chlorophyll-a concentration in algae species through machine learning methodologies.

The event ended with Prof. Dr. Mohammad Abdul Mannan delivering the closing remarks, where he shared his insights on the seminar and its outcomes. Among the esteemed faculty members in attendance were Dr. Md. Saniat Rahman Zishan, Director, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; Advisor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch; Mohammad Khurshed Alam, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; Dr. Md. Rifat Hazari Deputy Director, Dr. Anwarul Abedin Institute of Innovation, Senior Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering AIUB; Mehedi Azad Shawon Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB, and Amzad Ali Sarkar, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB. The event's discussions strongly resonate with SDG’s, including Quality Education, Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, Climate Action, as well as Life on Land and Life Below Water. The event started at 05:30 PM and finished at 08:00 PM. A total of 50+ participants attended the event.
