On Monday, May 5, 2025, Mr. Abu Shufian (Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB) disseminated his research titled “Energy Recovery and Power Management in EVs Using Supercapacitors and Regenerative Braking”, organized by the Department of EEE, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB. The aim of the event was to enhance participants’ understanding on the research paper which was published at the IEEE 2nd International Conference on Advanced Innovations in Smart Cities (ICAISC), held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The session began with an overview of the growing relevance of electric vehicles (EVs) in the context of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. Mr. Shufian elaborated on the principles of regenerative braking, where kinetic energy is converted into electrical energy during deceleration and stored using supercapacitors. He also discussed the role of Brushless DC (BLDC) motors and dynamic braking algorithms in achieving optimal energy recovery. Participants were introduced to system architecture, component specifications, control methodologies, and simulation-based performance analysis. The seminar emphasized key outcomes such as improved braking efficiency, faster energy recovery, and extended vehicle range. Through comparative analysis and cost-benefit evaluation, the session provided a comprehensive understanding of modern EV design considerations.
He then shared his experience at ICAISC in Jeddah International College (JIC) , Saudi Arabia. The session concluded with a Q&A segment, where participants and esteemed faculty members - including Prof.Mohammad Tawhidul Alam (Professor, Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, AIUB), Dr. Tanbir Ibne Anowar (Associate Professor, Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, AIUB), Dr. Mohammad Khurshed Alam (Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, AIUB), and Dr. Md. Rifat Hazari (Associate Professor & Special Assistant [EEE], Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, AIUB) - engaged in an interactive discussion.
