The Department of Social Science, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), AIUB, successfully organized the Poster Display and Competition titled "Unveiling the Truth through Sociological Imagination: Towards a Just and Humane Society" on Monday, January 20, 2025 (Monday) at the Multipurpose Hall, Annex 7. The program was formally inaugurated by Professor Dr. Tazul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences with an inspiring inaugural speech that motivated the participants.
A total of 40 teams—each consisting of 3-5 members were finally selected from 13 sections of Basics in Social Science and Foundations of Sociology courses—presented insightful posters on various contemporary social issues and problems in Bangladesh, drawing from their learnings. Out of 40 groups three best posters were awarded Crests, prizes, and certificates. All the participants were honored with certificates in recognition of their participation. The event provided a platform for students to critically analyze and visually represent pressing societal concerns through the lens of sociological imagination.
The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam, Honorable Vice Chancellor of AIUB, and Prof. Dr. Abdur Rahman, Honorable Pro-Vice Chancellor of AIUB Their presence and encouragement highlighted the significance of academic initiatives that foster critical thinking and creativity among students. They also emphasized students to be more updated and aware of the social changes.
The competition was judged by a distinguished panel of 4 experts from various departments, Dr Faria Sultana, Dr. Syeda Afroza Zerin, Mohammed Niaz Majumdar and
Theotonius Gomes. The judges carefully evaluated each poster based on creativity, depth analysis, and presentation.
The event concluded with a prize-giving ceremony graced by the presence of Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam, Honorable Vice Chancellor of AIUB, Prof. Dr. Abdur Rahman, Honorable Pro-Vice Chancellor of AIUB, Professor Dr. Tazul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Dr. Buddha Dev Biswas, Head of the Department of Social Science. The program was further enriched by the participation of distinguished faculty members from the Department of Social Science. The event was followed by an engaging cultural program, featuring music, dance, and a Cultural performance showcasing the cultural diversity of Bangladesh. The program wrapped up with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Buddha Dev Biswas, Head of the Department of Social Science, marking the end of an inspiring and memorable day filled with creativity, intellectual discourse, and cultural appreciation.
