SEMINAR ON “A new design style for behavioral (implicit) FSMs that makes them operate like FSMs with combinational outputs without pre and post processing” & “Existing technology and future trends in high speed and large capacity fiber optic communication systems”
On 22nd March 2016, closing two seminars of Post Graduate Seminar Series were organized by Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, at Room No 266, Faculty of Engineering Building, American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). Mr. Rinku Basak (Head, Dept. of EEE [Graduate Program] & Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB) delivered a speech briefly discussing about the topics of the seminars and provided related information to all the participants.
Later on, Mr. Shahriyar Masud Rizvi (Assistant Professor, Department of EEE, AIUB) started the opening session with a seminar entitled “A new design style for behavioral (implicit) FSMs that makes them operate like FSMs with combinational outputs without pre and post processing”. He demonstrated on a new coding style for behavioral (implicit) FSMs and also discussed how implicit style provides hardware designers with a very high level behavioral design style for FSMs/FSMDs. He mentioned about the tradeoff which was that implicit style could not produce combinational outputs. In case of FSMDs, modeling of data path registers can be tricky in implicit style. In the new coding style FSM outputs are assigned in such a way that produces FSM outputs just like an explicit FSM with combinational outputs. This technique does not require any pre or post processing tool and will work on any FSM/FSMD.
The closing session was conducted by Dr. Mohammad Nasir Uddin (Assistant Professor, Department of EEE, AIUB) on “Existing technology and future trends in high speed and large capacity fiber optic communication systems”, which was on existing technology and future trends in high speed and large capacity fiber optic communication systems. His session gave an overview of fiber optic communication systems including their key technologies and technological trend towards the next generation. He explained how fiber optic systems are important telecommunication infrastructure for worldwide broadband networks. He also described why wide bandwidth signal transmission with less amount of delay is a key requirement in present day applications. He talked about optical fibers which provide enormous and unsurpassed transmission bandwidth with negligible latency. So fiber optic communication is the transmission medium of choice for long distance and high data rate transmission in tele and data communication networks.
At the end of the event, Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman (Director & Associate Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB) thanked everyone and talked about new research trends. He also encouraged the participants to attend this type of seminars to increase their knowledge. Then Dr. Md. Abdul Mannan (Head, Dept. of EEE [Under Graduate Program] & Associate Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB) provided a speech on technological revolution. Dr. Md. Abu Abdullah (Assistant Professor, Department of EEE, AIUB), Dr. M. Tanseer Ali (Assistant Professor, Department of EEE, AIUB), Dr. Mollah Rezaul Alam (Assistant Professor, Department of EEE, AIUB), Dr. Md. Tanvir Hasan (Assistant Professor, Department of EEE, AIUB) and Mr. Ahmed Mortuza Saleque (Lecturer, Department of EEE, AIUB) graced the seminar with their presence.
