MS Excel software package is regarded as an essential for financial and statistical analysis. It is the most popular spreadsheet tool today. It is user friendly, robust, and packed with excellent features. Keeping its popularity and effectiveness in a workplace in mind, the Department of Finance organized a workshop on 5th October, 2011. The aim of the workshop was to help students learn the basics needed on how to create effective and professional looking spreadsheets. This presentation covered essential information of Excel including explaining spreadsheet terminologies, calculating percentage for future projections, drawing graphs with different types of data, changing the parameters of graphs, solving maths for PV, FV, IRR, NPV, PMT, RATE, NPER, and also how to prepare loan amortization schedule etc.
It was expected that after attending this workshop, students will be able to understand the basic operations of the software. Moreover, as they will learn about financial and statistical formulas and built in functions, they will be able to use this software to solve practical problems and take major decisions effectively.
