MPH Workshop at AIUB

Department of Public Health under the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences of American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) organized a workshop entitled “Workshop on SPSS and Standard Research Proposal Writing” on 18th of March 2017, held in the AIUB Auditorium and AIUB Computer Labs. It mainly focused on SPSS Software, Proposal writing, Literature review and Referencing.

The welcome speech was given by Prof. Dr. A. N. Neaz Ahmad (Advisor, MPH Program) and Dr. Tazul Islam (Dean, FASS) followed by the opening speech of the Chief Guest Mr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Secretary & Chairman, Land Reforms Board, Ministry of Land, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

The first session on “How to Write a Standard Research Proposal” was facilitated by Dr. Taufique Joarder, DrPH (Assistant Professor, Department of Public Health, James P Grant School of Public Health & Assistant Professor (Adjunct), Department of International Health, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, USA) and chaired by Prof. Dr. Nazrul Islam (Faculty, Department of Public Health, American International University-Bangladesh). This lively session mesmerized the participants to a great extent and provided deep insight on research proposals.

The second session was on “How to Develop Referencing Skills & Literature Review” and it was facilitated by Mr. Md Al Mamun (Manager, Library & Information Services, icddr,b)

Poster Walk with the theme “Depression: Let’s Talk” then followed and was organized at the study hall of campus 1 and 5.

After the lunch and prayer break ‘The Hands on Training on SPSS’ took place at the computer labs of campus 4 and was facilitated by trainers from AIUB, ICDDRB and Engender Health.

Nearing the end, an Interactive Session on “Importance of MPH in Building up a Good Public Health Career” was carried out by Dr. Abu Jamil Faisel, Country Director, Engender Health, Bangladesh. He called upon previous Chancellor and Vice Chancellor Award winners from previous convocations and they shared their experiences on how they started from the very base at AIUB and how MPH at AIUB have developed them into what they are now.

The program concluded with a closing speech from the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanuvea, and gave away the prizes for Poster, Essay and Quiz contest winners of the workshop.

The Department of Public Health holds this type of workshops and seminars every semester so that the students can avail a ‘hands on experience’ on management, organizing skills and public speaking and also promote the brand MPH at AIUB all over the country.
