MPH Study Tour Kashimpur Health and Family Welfare Cenre

The Students of the Department of Public Health of American International University–Bangladesh (AIUB) visited Kashimpur Health and Family Welfare Cenre (UH&FWC) at Gazipur Sadar Upazila on 11 June 2015. The purpose of the visit was to acquaint students with the types of health and family planning services, mechanism of delivering services, monitoring and assurance of quality of the services provided by a healthcare organization and allow them to approach their area of study in a hands-on experiential manner combining theory with real-life experience. The visit also aimed at providing students a scope to observe the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) of a Composite Knit Industry located in the same Union. On arrival at the UH&FWC, the Assistant Family Planning Officer ( AFPO) along with other staff of the facility such as Sub-Assistant Community Medical Officer (SACMO), Family Welfare Visitor (FWV), Pharmacist received the visiting team with a warm welcome on behalf of the Upazila and District authority. The UH&FWC is primarily meant for serving local people for both general health and family planning services under the leadership of SACMO. The SACMO and FWVs organize Satellite Clinic at the village level two days a week each by rotation. The service providers of the facility were very cordial in explaining their activities. The Pharmacist maintains the store, keep the records and distribute medicine to the outdoor patients.

The students also visited the Effluent Treatment Plant of Delta Composite knitting Ind. Ltd. which treats the waste disposed from the Dyeing factory of the Industry. Dr. Md. Bazlur Rashid, GM (Admin, HR & Compliance) welcomed the visiting team and explained the reasons for making effluent which is harmful for that treatment of waste is essential. A very modern Treatment Plant is established by the Delta Authority and he explained how it functions.

After the presentation, the team visited the site of the Treatment Plant and the In-charge of the plant explained all the different sections of the Plant.

The students were accompanied by Prof. Neaz Ahmed, Mr. Mahidul Islam and Dr. Md. Aurangzeb.
