MPH Seminar on “Prevent and Treat Diabetes”

7th April is the World Health Day, and WHO celebrates this day every year. This year, the slogan was “Beat Diabetes”. Keeping that in mind, MPH Department of American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), hosted a Seminar on “Prevent and Treat Diabetes”. It was held on April 8, 2016 in the AIUB Auditorium.

Dr. Md. Aurangzeb, the coordinator of MPH Program started the program with a delightful speech. Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva gave a speech and welcomed the Keynote Speaker, Prof. Dr. Tofayel Ahmed, Head, Endocrinology Department and Coordinator, BIRDEM Academy.

Before the Keynote Speech Prof. Dr. Nazrul Islam gave an introductory speech on both World Health Day and Diabetes Mellitus and some of the goals from Millennium Development Goals (MDG).

Prof. Dr. Tofayel Ahmed also informed the audience about Type II Diabetes Mellitus in his speech. He talked about several diabetes care in Bangladesh. He also presented two informative Power Point Presentations where the first one was on prevention and the latter was on treatment.

All the participants were very much elated to get them involved in the seminar and showed their concern by asking many relevant and important questions about the insulin inhaler, relationship between vegetable oils and diabetes, Gestational Diabetes etc.

Prof. Dr. Tofazzal Hossain, Vice President, Academics, gave a speech as a chief guest and told the young generation to be alert, safe and prevent Diabetes.

Prof. Dr. Tazul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, gave a memorandum along with a token of appreciation to Prof. Dr. Tofayel Ahmed and the seminar was brought to an end.

The Department of Public Health gratefully acknowledges the open handed support given by AIUB Management to make this event successful.
