MPH Department Participating in International Women’s Day Program at ICDDR’B

International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on progress, call for change and celebrate stories of ordinary women who have played, and continue to play an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities. The day celebrates the social, political and economic achievements of women while focusing world attention on areas requiring further action. Theme for International Women’s Day-2014 is: ’Equality for women is progress for all.’ From the beginning to till date, The Department of Public Health of American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) has always given their attention to improve the health status of women as well as to enhance gender equity in the health sector. As a continuation of their support AIUB has participated in a program organized by International Centre for Diarrheal Disease and Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR’B) to observe International Women’s day on 9th March, 2014. The theme of the program was ‘Inspiring Change’. AIUB has always encouraged the empowerment of women in higher education and employment. Public Health Department of AIUB is also working for the well-being of women as well as to address the issues related to gender based violence in Bangladesh. During the program at ICDDR’B, AIUB has provided the visitor with some important health tips, complimentary blood pressure check-up and an audio visual presentation on gender issues. The program was arranged by all the USAID Fellows working at AIUB. The organizing authority of ICDDR’B was very cordial with all the participants. We all hope that, this program will definitely pave the way for Public Health Department of AIUB for their growth and development and also will increase their opportunity to work more with women empowerment. The department of public health humbly acknowledges the generous support and co-operation extended by the management of AIUB in making the program a success.
