MMC organized a talk on Broadcast Policy in Bangladesh


Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said the government would form a world-class broadcasting policy in consultation with all classes of media personalities and academicians to run the country's broadcasting media. He was speaking at a seminar on “Broadcast Policy in Bangladesh” organized by the department of Media and Mass Communication at AIUB on October 7, 2012 at Campus 1 Auditorium of the university. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna inaugurated the program. She said that broadcasting media are the most powerful communication means that have tremendous impact on our everyday life and lifestyle, culture and behavioral pattern.  Ms Farhana Afroz, Head, department of Media and Mass communication of AIUB and Muhammad Zamir, the ambassador (Rtd.) and former Chief Information Commissioner (CIC), Information Commission, Bangladesh, were the key-note speakers. The country has no broadcasting policy to ensure accountability in journalism and protect the rights of the newsmen said Farhana Afroz.  Today media globalization, media convergence and technological determinism are shaping the nature of media policies in South Asia she added. Ms Afroz also said that a coherent broadcast policy would help to bring discipline to the broadcasting sector, contributing freedom of expression, encourage media plurality and fair competition among media owners.   Mr Zamir asked everyone to use effectively the Right to Information (RTI) Act to establish transparency and intelligibility to eradicate poverty and corruption from the society. Professor Dr. Charles Villanueva, Dean, Faculty of Business Administration delivered the Welcome Address while Professor Dr. Tafazzal Hossain, Vice President Academic Affairs & Dean, Faculty of Science & Information Technology bestowed the Vote of Thanks. The seminar was attended by Professor Tazul Islam, Dean Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), Mr Roomee Tareque Moudud, Director of OPA, Dr Buddha Dev Biswas and Mr Zahidul Islam, along with a large number of students of Media and Mass Communication Department. The program was coordinated by Ms Farhana Afroz.
