MICROSOFT INNOVATION & SECURITY PROGRAM AT AIUB

We live in a global economy where skills need to be transferable across borders to meet market demands. Since its inception in 1994, AIUB has been at the forefront in Computing by producing technically skilled and competent IT Professionals to meet the needs of the local and international market. As a technology leader with roots in academia, we are promised to equip our students with the right technology so that they can propel themselves into exciting and fulfilling careers. Our goal is to create a knowledge-based society where our graduates can impart into the rapidly changing technological challenges. We are setting new trends and benchmarks in the technical education sector in Bangladesh. As a testament to the fact, one of our CS graduate, Zaheed Sabur, got employed in Google’s Headquarter in California as a software engineer right after his graduation. Mr. Omar Al Zabir, another CS graduate, became Microsoft’s the ‘Most Valuable Programmer (MVP)’ in year 2007, who then founded and became CTO of pageflakes. They not only brought a sense of pride and fulfillment to the AIUB family, but also have opened up doors to other world-class graduates of AIUB into world-class companies. Aside from programming, we are also the regional champion in providing quality networking education to our students and were awarded as one of the best networking academy in the whole Asia-Pacific region in the year 2007 and 2008. We all believe that in the current Global Knowledge Economy, technology and innovation are basic parameters of growth. And Microsoft isn’t just huge; it’s a trendsetter in the world of innovation.   AIUB’s relationship with Microsoft started long back. AIUB is part of the Microsoft IT Academy program that enables our faculty and students to acquire new technology skills in an academic setting. We are also the member of the ‘Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) Academic Alliance’ which includes easy way getting access to Microsoft’s Latest Software that is provided free to Students and Faculty. We are strong advocate of Microsoft’s innovative technologies and have developed in-house Virtual University Expert System (VUES) with Microsoft’s .Net technology which runs our university operations quite smoothly. Our relationship with Microsoft was far strengthened when we joined the Microsoft Security Cooperation Program for Education (SCPe) in May 2007 to help manage IT Security concerns. In fact, AIUB is the first signatory to participate in this SCPe program outside USA. As a result of participating in the SCPe, we receive timely, up-to-date
notifications of known vulnerabilities, critical security updates, and key security
metrics directly from Microsoft which helps us to mitigate issues before it breaches our network infrastructure. In cooperation with SCPe, we promote awareness and a more proactive approach to IT security through outreach programs for both the public and private sectors. We have provided training on the latest IT and Internet security issues and technologies to more than 1,000 IT professionals and more than 800 government officials and law enforcement personnel. The program is being attended by Architect Yeafesh Osman, Hon’ble State Minister for Science & ICT, Govt. of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Mr. Feroz Mahmud, Country Manager, Microsoft Bangladesh, Mr. Jeff Paine and Dr. Bradley K. Jensen from Microsoft Corporation, USA.
