The Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) at the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) organized a specialized lecture for 2nd Year MBA students titled “Research Design for Business: The Path from the Research Gap to High-Impact Publication” on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the Media Studio. The session was conducted for students enrolled in the Research Methodology (RM) course under the guidance of Dr. A. F. Masum Rabbani. The event featured a welcoming speech by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Faridul Alam, Professor in the Department of Accounting and Director of the Graduate Program [MBA & EMBA] for the Faculty of Business Administration. In his remarks, he emphasized the vital importance of academic rigor and the necessity for graduate students to bridge the gap between theoretical inquiry and practical business applications. He encouraged the audience to utilize the session's insights to elevate their research from mere academic exercises to contributions capable of influencing high-impact global publications.
The keynote session, led by Dr. Khan M.R. Taufique [PhD, FHEA], a Senior Lecturer in Marketing at Oxford Brookes Business School and a Visiting Professor at AIUB, focused on the "Core Research Arc," guiding students through the process of turning broad business interests into focused, answerable research questions. For the MBA students, the lecture specifically emphasized linking managerial problems to researchable questions and identifying strong research gaps within high-interest topics. The discussion covered critical stages of research design, including literature synthesis and the development of measurement instruments to ensure the study meets the expectations of top-tier journals. The program was coordinated by Mehzab H. Nahid, Head of the Department of MIS. The session provided students with practical frameworks for finding and framing research problems so that reviewers and practitioners alike recognize their relevance. The event ended with an interactive Q&A session where students explored how early design choices determine the ultimate publishability of their work.
This event advanced SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) by providing high-level training on identifying research gaps and fostering innovation through the development of valid instruments for business problem-solving. Additionally, it contributed to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by equipping future managers with the methodology to conduct rigorous research into organizational well-being and health-related managerial practices that impact the workforce.
