Leadership and Teambuilding Training by AIUB Business Club (ABC)

The AIUB Business Club (ABC) organized an outbound daylong training program on “Leadership and Teambuilding” at Orchid Resort, Gazipur National Park on June 18, 2010. The training was organized for the undergraduate students of AIUB. Mr. Quazi M. Ahmed, CEO & Lead Consultant of FutureLeaders™ was the resource person. The journey started on a double-decker bus at 8AM from AIUB campus with about 140 trainees including the resource person and his associates along with Mr. Latiful Kabir, Faculty member of AIUB. Everyone had breakfast along the way; the daylong activity plan was distributed among everyone in the bus. Upon reaching the destination everyone relaxed for a few minutes and then the time came for the training to begin. Mr. Quazi gathered everyone inside the conference hall of the Orchid Resort and gave a short briefing on the day long activities and why they were important. Next everyone in the hall was split up into pairs of two people to perform a teambuilding exercise. The activity was to tie each other’s hands with a piece of rope and try to break free without untying the knots. There was one successful pair who succeeded in completing the task. However Mr. Quazi later revealed to everyone about how to do the exercise successfully.  Afterwards, everyone gathered around Mr. Quazi in a circle and they were divided into twelve groups to prepare for the next exercise. Each team was conducted by a team convener appointed by ABC whose task was to observe whether everyone was doing the task properly. The next exercise soon began after the teams were made. The next exercise was a teambuilding task. The task was to build a model structure of a new campus for AIUB using the tools provided. The team that would have the tallest, most economical and most creative structure would win. Each team started and had a time limit of 30 minutes. After the teams finished their task everyone went for a prayer break. After the prayer break lunch was served. After lunch a member from each team was called to give a short presentation on the model campus they made. After this presentation round everyone went to the field to begin the next exercise - “The Spider Web”. The idea of this exercise was to get all nine members of a team through a net of strings designed like a spider web without touching the string. The same passage could not be used twice and if someone touched the string then the whole team would have to start over again. There were two groups that attained the first place and runner up positions. The daylong training ended with a group photo session and an award giving ceremony. An award of appreciation was presented to Quazi M. Ahmed by Mahmudul Karim Farsad, President of AIUB Business Club (ABC). Afterwards everyone boarded the bus for the journey back to the campus. On the way back everyone get the certificate of participation in the training. The AIUB Business Club (ABC) plans to organize more events like this in the future for the students of AIUB as part of the vision of ABC – which is to “Put Leadership into Practice”.
