The Department of English, American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) hosted a lively talk titled “Language as a Window to the Mind: Noam Chomsky’s Insights”, on August 27, 2025, from 4:30 to 5:30 PM in Room 3202. The session was part of the department's ongoing Catalysts Talk Series, which is an initiative designed to spark engaging academic conversations and build bridges between researchers, educators, and language enthusiasts.
The talk was led by Hamidul Haque, Head of the Department and Senior Assistant Professor, Department of English, AIUB, who drew from his years of academic experience and classroom practice to unpack Chomsky’s groundbreaking theories. His insights brought clarity and depth to complex ideas like- Mental Word vs Cognitive Organ, Innate vs Learned Knowledge, Universal Grammar, Language Acquisition Device (LAD), and how language functions both as a mental faculty and a form of mental exercise.
It was a fantastic opportunity for anyone passionate about linguistics, cognitive science, or simply the magic of language.
