Interactive Session with Guests from USA

An interesting, educational and interactive session took place as a group of leaders from the United States of America, visited the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) for “Leadership Experiences in USA: An Interactive Session” on January 29, 2012.  at the AIUB Auditorium. This was arranged and moderated by Dr. Md. Taufiqul Islam, Assist. Professor, AIUB, and also a member of the team that visited the US last year to participate in a session organized by the World Learning Program of the Department of State, USA. The American visitors were comprised of Vladimir Spencer  - Program Director, World Learning Program, Dept. of State, USA;. Joseph M. Cicero Jr. Mayor, City of Lyndhurst, Lyndhurst, Ohio; Erika Akpan – Policy Analyst, Committee on Business and Commerce, The Texas State Senate, Austin, Texas;  John Chandler – Principal Consultant, Committee on Agriculture, California State Senate, Sacramento, California;. Josh Hoxie – Legislative Correspondent / Staff Assistant, Office of U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, Washington. DC;  Jack Mason, Senior Budget and Performance Analyst, Legislative Budget Board, Austin Texas and  Neil Waggoner, Legislative Aide, Office of Representative Lorraine M. Fende, Ohio House of Representatives, Columbus, Ohio, along with Jamil Ahmed representative of the Word Learning Program in Bangladesh. During the interactive session, students and faculty of AIUB take turns in asking questions to the guests on matters related to economy, politics, press freedom, education and social concerns. The interaction was indeed lively, informative and productive. Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration delivered the Welcome address, while Manzur H. Khan, Director, Office of Student Affairs (OSA), gave a brief overview of AIUB. Prof. Dr. Tafazzal Hossain, Vice President for Academics presented the guests with souvenirs along with a word of thanks to the visitors.  Among others present were Dr. Silverine de Silva, Assistant Director, OSA, MBA and BBA Directors, Dr. Nisar Ahmed and Dr. Eshanul Chowdhury, Dr. Ahmed Neaz, MPH Advisor and other faculty members along with a house full of students. The session ended with lunch hosted by the honorable Vice Chancellor, Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna and Founder Vice-President, Dr. Hasanul A. Hasan.
