On Thursday, July 9, 2026, the Faculty of Engineering (FE), American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), organized an industrial visit to Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) at Diabari, Uttara, Dhaka. The visit was supported by the Engineering Students' Association of Bangladesh (ESAB) -- AIUB Unit Face. The purpose of the visit was to provide students with practical exposure to real-world metro rail operations. Students were also given a chance to learn how metro rail systems function from an electrical engineering perspective.
The visit was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir (Associate Professor, Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering); Dr. Mohammad Khurshed Alam (Associate Professor, Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering) along with the support from Mr. Shahariar Parvez, Assistant Professor & Special Assistant [OSA]. Their guidance contributed to a well-organized and informative experience. Their coordination ensured that students remained engaged throughout the visit.
Permission for the visit was graciously facilitated by DMTC. The entire visit was coordinated and guided by Md. Sajid Khan (Assistant Manager (S&S) (Attached), DMTCL). He explained how the metro rail in Bangladesh works from an electrical engineering point of view. This gave students a clear technical understanding before they proceeded to the practical part of the visit.
The delegation visited a Metro Rail station as part of the program. There, students observed in real life how the metro rail system operates. They watched the day-to-day functioning of the station and its equipment. This hands-on observation helped them connect classroom knowledge with real industry practice.
The visit gave the students invaluable practical insight into the application of electrical engineering concepts in a mission-critical, professionally managed transit system. This experience significantly enriched their academic and professional outlook.
An interactive discussion followed the observation session. During this, participants actively engaged with Md. Sajid Khan. They asked questions about metro rail operations and received detailed answers, fostering meaningful academic discussion.
The visit concluded with an official group photograph featuring the delegation and DMTCL officials. This marked the successful completion of the event and celebrated the collaborative efforts of all involved.
